Private tours and excursions from Rethymno

Eight routes in four directions. The differences that matter are how much you walk, whether you swim and how much shade there is — so that is what we compare.

Preveli Beach and Spili

The south coast and a spring village in one unhurried day, timed around the Preveli descent rather than a coach schedule.

Arkadi, Patsos and Potamon

The island’s most significant monastery, a cave church in a wooded gorge and a mountain reservoir — a day of shade and substance rather than beach queues.

Melidoni Cave and Margarites

A cave, a working pottery village and a proper lunch — the inland day for travellers who want to meet people who make things.

Chania Old Town and Lake Kournas

The Venetian harbour and the island’s only freshwater lake in one day, with drop-off at the edge of the old town instead of a car park hunt.

Knossos and Heraklion

The Bronze Age palace and the collection that came out of it, on a schedule set around the site’s shade rather than a coach bay.

Kourtaliotiko Gorge and Kalypso

Gorge scenery and a south-coast swim on a route that never asks you to descend a cliff on foot.

Cretan farm and gastronomy

Time with the people who make the oil, the honey and the cheese, and a meal that follows straight on from it.

Private yoga

An outdoor session for your group alone, at a time of day that suits the light and the heat.

All eight days, side by side

We do not publish drive times we have not confirmed this season. What is stable is the shape of each day, and that is usually what decides it.

On effort ratingsThese are our own judgements from running the routes, not operator claims. If anyone in your group has limited mobility, tell us when you enquire — Preveli in particular is not realistic without a steep stepped descent, and there are routes that reach comparable landscape without it.

Not sure which one?

Two guides cover this properly. The day trips comparison walks through all four directions and who each suits. The three-day itinerary shows how they fit together across a short stay.

If you would rather just describe your week to a person, the contact form takes about a minute and we will tell you honestly what fits.
